World Cup glory - Signed by Mike Tindall and Josh Lewsey
England's dramatic extra-time victory over Australia in the final of the 2003 World Cup was one of the most iconic moments in rugby history and saw Sir Clive Woodward's side finally break the southern hemisphere's stranglehold on the Webb Ellis trophy.
England went into the final at the Telstra Stadium in Sydney as reigning Six Nations champions and favourites but the Wallabies had home advantage and the stage was set for a titanic tussle.
Australia drew first blood when wing Lote Tuqiri outjumped Jason Robinson to claim a high ball and score an early try but the men in white hit back when Jonny Wilkinson put Robinson over an England try.
They were to be the only five-pointers of the match and it was left to Wilkinson and Wallaby centre Elton Flatley to trade penalties, leaving the contest locked at 14-14 after 80 pulsating minutes. Another penalty apiece in extra-time failed to separate the two teams and as the clock ticked down, it seemed the final was heading to sudden death.
England however had other ideas. Second row Ben Kay took a lineout and England drove towards the Australian line. Skipper Martin Johnson and scrum-half Matt Dawson made further ground and Wilkinson was now within drop goal range.
Dawson duly unleashed a bullet pass from the breakdown to his half-back partner, Wilkinson took the ball and cocked his right leg for the drop, which sailed majestically through the uprights. The game finished 20-17, Australia were beaten and England were world champions.
