West Brom 1968 FA Cup Winners - signed by Williams, Brown and Hope
Equalling Newcastle's record of appearing in 10 FA Cup finals, the West Bromwich Albion players arrived at Wembley for the 1968 final against Everton, buoyed up by a massive contingent of expectant cheering Baggies fans.
It was silverware, not entertainment that was foremost in the fans' minds that day and it has to be said that it was not the most adventurous of finals, the score being 0-0 at the end of the first 90 minutes, with the Toffees having a slight edge. In fact, they had the trophy in their sights five minutes from the end when Morrisey found an unmarked Husband six yards out. Luckily for Albion, Husband somehow managed to head the ball over the bar.
And so it was that Jeff Astle was able to save the day with a spectacular right foot drive which rebounded off Harvey and which Astle then slammed into the far corner of the net. Astle had scored in every round of the Championship but had struggled to push one past Everton's Brian Labone. When he finally managed it, the West Brom supporters went wild.
