Treble Hero - 1999 Champions League shirt signed by Teddy Sheringham
Known as one of the most intelligent footballers of his generation Teddy Sheringham MBE, enjoyed one of the longest and most successful careers in Premier League history.
Born in Highams Park in 1966, he began his career with Millwall helping the Lions to reach the top flight of English football for the first time in 1988.
Brian Clough soon spotted Sheringham's talents taking him to Nottingham Forest in 1991 but despite scoring the first ever Premier League goal - the Londoner was soon sold to Tottenham Hotspur the following year.
During five successful years at White Hart Lane Sheringham scored 76 goals, and earning himself international recognition with England in the process. Always excelling himself in an England shirt, he struck up a successful partnership with Alan Shearer and was a key man during Euro 96. With 51 caps to his name, Sheringham also scored 11 goals.
As he entered the twilight of his career Sheringham was given a new lease of life when Sir Alex Ferguson signed him for Manchester United in 1997. Two years later he helped United win the Treble, scoring United's famous equaliser against Bayern Munich at the Nou Camp. In 2001, after enjoying his best ever season at the age of 35, Sheringham was named PFA Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year.
After quitting Old Trafford in the summer of 2001, Sheringham returned to Spurs before enjoying spells with West Ham United, Portsmouth and finally Colchester United - before announcing retirement from the game in 2008.
