Toon Hero - Newcastle United print signed by Alan Shearer
Alan Shearer is quite simply the most prolific striker the Premiership has ever seen and in an 18-year professional career with Southampton, Blackburn and his hometown club Newcastle, the forward broke records with the same regularity with which he found the back of the net.
Born in Gosforth, Shearer began his career as a teenager with Southampton in 1988 but it was following his £3.6 million move to Blackburn in 1992 that he blossomed into England's premier striker for both club and country.
He scored a staggering 112 times in 138 league games for Rovers, his goals helping the club to the Premiership title in 1995, but the lure of playing for his beloved Newcastle proved too strong in 1996 when the Magpies paid £15 million to bring him home.
Although he was unable to add to his medals haul at St James' Park, Shearer spent the next decade terrorising defences and by the time he finally hung his boots in 2006, he had scored a club record 206 goals, eclipsing the previous mark of 200 set by the legendary Jackie Milburn.
Shearer also holds the Premiership record of 260 goals and in an international career that brought him 63 caps and 30 goals.
