Surely no other snooker player is loved as much as Jimmy White. His flamboyant playing style and incredible natural talent make him one of the most exciting players in the history of the game. His cue power and use of the rest are second to none and, while his fast style earned him his Whirlwind nickname, he's also known as the People's Champion.

People's Champion because, despite winning 23 professional titles, Jimmy was famously runner up in 6 World Championship finals. His five consecutive final defeats between 1990 and 1994 mean Jimmy will always be seen as the bridesmaid rather than the bride. On most of these occasions Jimmy found himself next to a blushing Steven Hendry at the altar. After losing to the Scotsman in the 1994 Final, Jimmy's understatement was priceless: "He's beginning to annoy me." Hendry's long-standing admiration of White is unconditional. "Jimmy's still my hero," he said after another final knock-out.

Despite Jimmy's image as something of a bad boy away from the table, when he picks up his cue he is the perfect sportsman and always calls his own fouls - another reason why Jimmy commands such adoration from his thousands of fans throughout the world.
