Official World Cup Poster - Sweden 1958
Brazil won their first World Cup with a 5-2 victory over the hosts Sweden in a tournament that marked the arrival on the world stage of the incomparable Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pele.
The tournament was the first World Cup since the passing of its founding father, Jules Rimet, who died in 1956.
As well as the achievements of Brazil and Pele, the competition is also remembered for French striker, Just Fontaine's 13 goals during the tournament - a record that still stands to this day.
Indeed the world game opened its doors to two British newcomers in these finals, as Wales and Northern Ireland both competed for the first time. Wales were only stopped by the awesome talents of Pele who scored the first of his twelve World Cup goals against the Welsh in the quarter finals.
