Goal of the Season - signed by Paolo Di Canio
Talented forward Paolo Di Canio joined West Ham in 1999 and stayed with them until 2003, during which time he won many honours for the club, including the FIFA Fair Play Award, which must have meant a lot to a player whose fiery Italian temperament often brought him controversy. He was given the award for not taking advantage of an injured Everton goalkeeper, when he could easily have scored, instead of which he just caught the ball.
Paolo Di Canio's dazzling virtuoso performances as a player soon made him an integral part of the West Ham team and his ability to cut through a defence single-handedly made him very popular with all Hammers fans.
