Official World Cup Poster - England 1966

London's Wembley stadium provided a fitting venue for the final between the two great adversaries of England and West Germany, with 97,000 fans cramming in to watch the action unfold.

The match was an exciting affair which England won 4-2 after extra time with Geoff Hurst becoming the only man to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final. The game was not without its controversy when with the score at 2-2 Hurst took a shot that hit the underside of the crossbar. Bouncing down the goal was given as the referee and infamous Russian linesman deemed that the ball had in fact crossed the line, much to the anguish of the West Germans.

BBC commentator Kenneth Wolstenholme's description of the match's closing moments has gone down in history: "Some people are on the pitch. They think it's all over" (Hurst scores) "It is now!"
England received the recovered Jules Rimet trophy from her majesty the Queen and were crowned World Cup winners. This most famous of prints, rekindling thoughts of that famous tournament, is surely one no true football enthusiast should be without.
