Merse - Montage print signed by Arsenal legend Paul Merson
Born in Harlesden, Middlesex on March 20, 1968, Paul Merson is regarded as one of Arsenal's best ever players.
Merson made his first team debut for the Gunners against Manchester City in 1986 and under George Graham's leadership the Londoner quickly became a key part of a successful Arsenal side.
After gaining several England Under-21 caps and having been named as PFA Young Player of the Year in 1989, Merson won his first piece of silverware in the same season, helping Arsenal to their legendary First Division title success on the last day of the season at Anfield.
A second league winners' medal followed in 1991, which was also the year when Merson won the first of his 21 England caps in a friendly against Germany.
Further success followed in 1993 and 1994 when Merson played a pivotal role in Arsenal's FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup Winners Cup final victories.
A number of personal problems surfaced after this success and during the early stages of Arsene Wenger's stewardship at Highbury, Merson was sold to Middlesbrough for £5million.
He made a total of 423 appearances for Arsenal scoring 99 goals.
