Thirty Classics - signed by Lester Piggott

With over 5,300 wins and 30 Classic victories to his name, Lester Piggott was undoubtedly the finest flat jockey in history. He rode his first winner when he was just 12 and claimed his record 30th Classic at the age of 56. He won the Derby a record nine times aboard some of racing's most legendary horses.

He possessed an uncanny empathy with horses that allowed him to adapt his style for a particular horse. Sometimes subtle, other times almost ferocious in his use of the whip, he knew how to get the optimum performance from his mount. He could watch another jockey finish far back in the field and instinctively know what was required for the horse to win on its next attempt. Graham Bradley called him, "An unbelievable man. He could even think like a horse!"

His calmness under pressure was incredible. Whether riding in the Derby at Epsom, or in a class E on a cold Wednesday morning, he wore the same face of dour nonchalance. No wonder he was nicknamed 'Old Stoneface' by his peers. The punters, however, knew him as 'Come on, Lester' - a cry which rang out around finish lines throughout five decades as he tore up the final straight, winning them billions from the bookmakers.

Own a piece of sporting history

When Lester Piggott rode Rodrigo de Triano to victory in the 1992, 2,000 Guineas he completed an astonishing 30 Classic wins. Our print features a great photograph of the moment Lester headed for the finish line to immortalise himself in racing history in his fifth decade in the saddle.

Personally Signed

Each of the 250 prints has been personally signed by Lester Piggott. Lester very rarely signs photographic prints, making his autograph, and this print, very collectable.

Lester's Record
