Whether coming off the bench, or starting a game for England, Darius never disappoints the fans, his teammates, or himself and always performs for the greater cause. Darius Vassell is one of the most successful talents to emerge from the Aston Villa youth squad where he was to score an incredible 38 goals in 41 appearances back in the 1996/97 season. He would not remain in the youth team for long and first team action at Villa beckoned.

On his graduation to first team football, Darius Vassell certainly made a massive impact. During 2001/02, Vassell scored a whopping 16 goals and helped his beloved Villa to a spell at the top of the Premiership. His well-deserved England call-up followed in a friendly against Holland in February 2002, where Darius scored one of the great debut goals with a spectacular overhead kick, giving England an equaliser and himself a solid foothold in the England camp.
