Chelsea FA Cup Winners 1970 - signed by Ron Harris and Peter Osgood
The 1970 FA Cup, won for the first time in the club's history, was a landmark victory for Chelsea. The fans had to sit through two gruelling matches before they could claim their prize, making the winning goal, when it came, that much sweeter.
Led by inspirational skipper Ron 'Chopper' Harris, the victory was hard won, starting with a 2-2 draw at Wembley and then followed, 18 days later, by the bitterly fought replay at Old Trafford - the first Cup final replay since 1912. Chelsea faced a Leeds side which had enjoyed a magnificent season and Harris' team were in no doubt about the strength of their opponents.
In the first half Chelsea goalkeeper Peter Bonetti had been laid out by a late charge from Jones and had not fully recovered when the Leeds striker scored a brilliant goal after charging past the Chelsea defence. The equaliser came 12 minutes before time - a diving header from Peter Osgood, Chelsea's hugely talented striker.
With bated breath, a minute before the extra time break, the crowd followed a mighty throw on the left being deflected to the far post and then bundled into goal by Webb. A victory roar went up from the crowd. At last Chelsea had won that sweetest of prize of all - the FA Cup.
