Hammers Hero - Signed unframed Paolo di Canio shirt
Colourful, controversial and never far from the headlines, Paolo Di Canio was one of football's greatest mavericks and during eight years in the British game, the Italian striker forged a reputation as one of Europe's most unpredictable talents.
Born in Rome in 1968, Di Canio began his professional career with his hometown club of Lazio and after brief spells with Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan, he arrived in Britain in 1996 when he signed for Celtic in a £1 million deal.
It was however at Upton Park in the colours of West Ham that the forward finally found his spiritual home, signing for the Hammers in January 1999 and signalling the start of the most settled and prolific period in his career.
In total, Di Canio made 118 league appearances for the club in a celebrated four-year stay, scoring 48 goals, and his passion, flair and outspoken personality ensured he was an instant hit with the Upton Park faithful.
The popular Italian left West Ham in 2003 to play for Charlton but his place in Hammers folklore was already assured.
