Gazza - England number 19 shirt, signed by Paul Gascoigne
The most naturally and outrageously English player of his generation, Paul Gascoigne lit up the international stage with his talents for a decade and had it not been for England's agonising penalty shootout to West Germany at Italia 90, he would have graced a World Cup final.
First capped by Bobby Robson in a friendly against Denmark in 1988 but it was at the World Cup finals two years later that he was to make an inedible mark on the football world and come to close to steering the side into the final for the first time since 1966.
Gazza was simply sensational at the tournament as England progressed through the group stages and then beat Belgium and Cameroon to set up an eagerly-anticipated semi-final against West Germany in Turin.
The match was an epic. The Germans took the lead with a deflected freekick but England equalised through Gary Lineker after 80 minutes and the game headed into extra-time. Gascoigne was having a great match but will forever be remembered for his tears after he was yellow carded for a lunge on Thomas Berthold, a booking which meant he would not be available for the final.
England of course never made it through but Gazza's superb performances made him one of the undisputed stars of the tournament.
