Game Breaker - signed by Andrew Flintoff
The first part of our exclusive Freddie Flintoff Collection features a jubilant Andrew Flintoff, celebrating the dismissal of Stephen Flemming, New Zealand's Captain.
The touring New Zealand side came up against the formidable talents of Andrew Flintoff in 2004. Batt in hand, Freddie was the bulwark of the middle order but, with the ball, New Zealand witnessed the continuing renaissance of the big Lancastrian's formidably quick seam bowling. At times during the series, Freddie touched 90mph in his delivery, an astonishing turn of pace for a man with such a massive frame.
At 6ft 4in and large with it, Freddie had some initial back problems as he adapted his frame to the rigours of Test bowling. With some technical adjustments to develop a chest-on bowling action, he has never looked back. Freddie's noticeably high action gives him great economy but, through the sheer weight of his deliveries, he can easily shift from defence to attack and trouble the batsman with a fearsome bouncer.
Freddie has quickly become England's most reliable One-Day bowler, not least at the business end of an innings. More than once, Flintoff has provided the steady-hand, ensuring line and length one moment and a stunning yorker the next. One of the few bowlers who can produce a searing, reliable yorker on tap, Freddie is the man you expect to bring back the stumps.
