Adebayor - Arsenal shirt signed by striker Emmanuel Adebayor
Born in the Togo capital Lome, Emmanuel Adebayor has emerged as one of the Premier League's most feared strikers and his natural athleticism, pace and eye for goal make it him indispensible part of Arsene Wenger's highly-rated young side.
Adebayor began his journey to north London and the Emirates in his native Togo before his talents were spotted by French side Metz, who brought him to Europe to continue his football education. Two years later he was snapped up by Monaco but it was to be his move to Arsenal that saw him truly blossom.
The forward joined the Gunners in January 2006 in a £3 million deal but he was initially a fringe figure. It was not until the departure of club record scorer Thierry Henry to Barcelona in the summer of 2007 that he was presented with a chance to truly establish himself and he grabbed his opportunity with both hands.
The 2007-08 season was certainly the striker's finest campaign in Arsenal colours and the goals came with satisfying regularity. A hat-trick against Derby in September was particularly eye-catching but his run of scoring in nine consecutive appearances in the New Year was the real evidence of Adebayor's emergence as a world-class player.
